[Blogparade] Thursday Movie Picks #95

http://wanderingthroughtheshelves.blogspot.ch/

Includes English version (sorry for all mistakes!) :)

#95: Androids/Cyborgs

This is going to be a anime list - since Japan really rocks the cyborg stuff :D

  1. Appleseed/Appleseed
Wirklich.

This one I watched long time ago or maybe I just read so much about it that I just think I watched it. However, Appleseed has an huge impact on the topic of cyborgs. It's pretty epic and pretty cool. Really.

  2. Ghost in the Shell/Ghost in the Shell

This one is the Nr. 1 (Appleseed is second I'd say) and there are so many movies and spin-offs now that I can't even tell you which one I've watched. I watched it on TV very late at night because there is no other time in Germany you could show a movie like Ghost in the Shell.

  3. Full Metal Alchemist/Full Metal Alchemist

Well, the robotic implants are called "Automail" in this anime series but if you walk around with metallic arms and legs that are connected to your nervous system you could be called a cyborg, right? Also, this anime appears on a lot of other cyborg-lists, so I thought it's alright to put it here. And before anyone plays the "but it's a show" card - there are FMA movies as well.

Welche Filme fallen euch noch so ein?
What other movies come to your mind?

  1. Interesting choices and a theme within a theme! I never watch anime so I'll never see these but kudos for out of the loop picks.

This isn't really a genre that is one of my favs so I had to cast around a bit to come up with three but reached back to the 70's when there was a bit of a string of them and came up with two and the other is a bit of a Terminator reworking.

Eve of Destruction (1991)-Eve is a military android, an exact replicate of her creator (both played by Renee Soutendijk) who through a malfunction has become a killing machine as well as a nuclear bomb. Now that she is running amok and creating havoc in the big city a rescue team headed by Colonel Gregory Hines is tasked to disarm her before she explodes. She however will destroy anything in her path to prevent that.

The Stepford Wives (1975)-Something’s not quite right in the charming, old-fashioned town of Stepford. All the women are incredibly docile and yielding and new arrival Joanna (Katharine Ross) wants to know why. The answer is one that is both scary and disturbing. Eerie suspenser that is heads and tales about the crappy 2004 remake.

Westworld (1973)-Michael Crichton directed sci-fi story of an amusement park tricked out to resemble the Wild West and stocked with androids that the guests can have mock shoot-outs with as pretend gunslingers. Blaine and Martin (James Brolin & Richard Benjamin) arrive for a bit of adventure just as there is a system failure and their supposed to be relaxing vacation becomes a race for survival. Followed by a sequel Futureworld.

I've heard about Eve of Destruction but never seen it. Same with The Stepford Wives but I'd like to watch this movie at some point.
And since I love Michael Crichton Westworld defenitely is a Must-See!

  2. I have not seen any of these but it's so cool that you picked films that are not the norm. I used to watch an anime tv show from the early 90's that I thought was quite good but I can't remember the name now. Great choices

    1. War ja irgendwie klar, ne? ;)
Blade Runner ist eine sehr gute Wahl! A.I und I, Robot sind auch auf einigen Listen aufgetaucht. Vom Sechs-Millionen-Dollar-Mann habe ich schon irgendwo was gehört, bin aber unsicher...
